Destiny Rescue had the opportunity to exert influence on Australia’s federal politicians at a roundtable discussion on the links between pornography and child sex trafficking.
On 9 October 2012, in Parliament House, Canberra, sixteen leaders representing fourteen key stakeholders and community groups representing millions of Australian families met for a Strategic Roundtable on “Pornography and the Increase in Sex Trafficking – How do we solve the problem?” The ‘October 9 Declaration’ and the resulting ‘Three Point Plan’ were confirmed by unanimous decision as urgent action points to turn back the tide of sex trafficking and the exploitation of women and children in our highly sexualised society.
Destiny Rescue Business and Development Manager Michael Keeffe represented Destiny Rescue at this important event. It provided the opportunity to meet like minded organisations and have a voice to Australia’s political leaders. The discussion was well received by politicians and there was a great deal of interest in the work of Destiny Rescue throughout the roundtable discussions.
The discussion concluded that pornography and sex trafficking are inextricably linked. It is pornography – the advertising and marketing of prostitution – that creates a growing market demand for the bodies of women and children. There was also an emphasis on the fact that Australian men are recognised as the number one foreign users of child sex tourism in South East Asia and the need to ensure that Australian authorities recognised both awareness and law enforcement as key factors to curb the flow of Aussie men contributing to this horrific problem.
THANK YOU for your interest in supporting Destiny Rescue financially. Together, we can help free children that have been bound, restore those that have been wounded and provide a safer world for them to grow up and live in.
