URGENT – Rescue the Philippines
At Destiny Rescue we have been planning to set up a Rescue Project in the Philippines in response to the high incidence of trafficked children in this country.
Our plan just became even more urgent.
We need to get our feet on the ground in the Philippines immediately. And we need your help to get there.
It is a well-documented fact that child traffickers flock to natural disaster sites to find vulnerable children they can sell into the sex-trade.
The children of the Philippines are in very grave danger.
After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said illegal child trafficking is “one of the biggest problems that we have.”
After the tsunami of 2004 in India, Debabrat Patra, ActionAid’s regional manager for Uttarakhand said, “Displacement of people on such a massive scale increases their vulnerability to exploitation and abuse. We saw human trafficking peak after the 2004 tsunami, Orissa cyclone.”
It is hard to imagine that anyone would take advantage of such horror, but traffickers in partnership with organised crime syndicates do just that. For them, the disaster in the Philippines is a sea of opportunity for massive profit. They will operate hard and fast in this climate of human misery and need. Vulnerable children will be sold into the sex-trade en masse.
We must get there urgently.
Before this tragedy, the Philippines was known to have between 60,000 and 100,000 children trapped in the sex-trade, which was why we planned to establish a Rescue Project there. That number is about to rise dramatically; our planned project has now become an urgent priority.
As soon as we get the funds, we will set up a Rescue Project immediately. Please help us.
