Sex trafficking and exploitation
in South Asia
Girls from bordering countries are often trafficked or coerced and sold into these brothels. Even girls native to this region can be deceived and forced to work in the brothels. Sometimes girls are pressured into the brothels out of financial desperation or sexual abuse in their past. Younger girls in brothels are held captive, often physically, for years until they have no will or hope to escape. Their children are raised in these brothels, and their exploitation begins at a young age.
